Valdosta’s February Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Valdosta’s February unemployment rate remained unchaged at 3.3 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.7percent. Despite this, Valdosta saw job numbers rise in the month of February.
 
“Thanks to the hard work of many Georgians, February saw gains in jobs, labor force, and the number of employed for much of the state,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “As we look towards the spring and summer months, we remain committed to working with employers as they continue to fill open positions with suitable job seekers.”
 
The labor force decreased in Valdosta by 5 and ended the month with 64,295. That number is down 963 when compared to February of 2021.
 
Valdosta finished the month with 62,153 employed residents. That number decreased by 7 over the month and is down by 65 when compared to the same time a year ago.
 
Valdosta ended February with 55,900 jobs. That number increased by 300 from January to February and is up by 700 when compared to this time last year.
 
The number of unemployment claims went down by 8 percent in Valdosta in February. When compared to last February, claims were down by about 85 percent.
 
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 595 active job postings in Valdosta for February.
