Valdosta Sees an All-Time Low Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Valdosta recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.1 percent, down two-tenths of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 4.9 percent.

“We are seeing the highest number of employed Georgians in our state’s history,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “Looking towards the new year, our focus is on attracting more people to join the workforce in 2022.”

The labor force decreased in Valdosta by 73 and ended the month with 65,955. That number is down 440 when compared to November of 2020.

Valdosta finished the month with 64,585 employed residents. That number increased by 101 over the month and is up by 1,431 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Valdosta ended November with 58,000 jobs. That number increased by 100 from October to November and is up by 1,200 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 40 percent in Valdosta in November. When compared to last November, claims were down by about 89 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 376 active job postings in Valdosta for November.
