Monday, September 20th, 2021

At the regularly scheduled commission meeting on Tuesday, the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners recognized the Lowndes County Code Enforcement Officers. Code Enforcement focuses on the enforcement of codes, ordinances, and zoning through education and compliance with local citizens.

The Code Enforcement Division responds to the concerns from citizens that affect the quality of life within Lowndes County such as overgrown lots, inoperative vehicles, unsafe structures, illegal dumping, care of premises, and littering.

“Our Code Enforcement Officers are dedicated and highly qualified professionals who share the goals of preventing neighborhood deterioration, enhancing and ensuring safety, and preserving property values through knowledge and application of housing, zoning, and nuisance codes and ordinances”, said Paige Dukes, Lowndes County Manager. “Often times their efforts go unnoticed, however Lowndes County Code Enforcement works extremely hard for compliance to help keep our community clean and safe”.

In 2020, Lowndes County Code Enforcement entered in 2,070 case reports, opened 1,200 new cases from concerned citizens and worked an average of 100 new cases monthly.

“My team of Code Enforcement Officers are truly amazing advocates for all of our citizens and work hard to resolve quality of life issues and truly care about keeping Lowndes County and our citizens safe,” said Mindy Bates, Director, Code Enforcement.

Lowndes County Code Enforcement Division works jointly with the Valdosta-Lowndes Inspections Department and Valdosta and Lowndes County Zoning Departments to ensure compliance and safety standards are applied consistently.
