On Friday, August 13, noon-1:00 p.m., the Georgia Archives’ Lunch and Learn live event will be available to the public through Microsoft Teams. “The Memory Lab at Middle Georgia Regional Library” will be presented by Muriel M. This live event will be uploaded to our YouTube channel “Georgia Archives.”
Jackson, who recently spoke on NPR on the subject, spearheaded the creation of the Memory Lab at the library where patrons may book a three-hour time slot, and use the extensive genealogy collections of the Washington Memorial Library to copy family materials.
Our speaker is the head librarian of the Genealogical & Historical Room and the archivist for the Middle Georgia Archives. She began her library career at the Middle Georgia Regional Library System as a microfilm librarian in 1990. After three years, she was promoted to the Middle Georgia Archives where she has flourished collecting and documenting local history. Her next step is to make the collection more accessible through the use of digital technology. Jackson holds a Master Degree in Library Science from Atlanta University and a specialist degree in library science from University of South Carolina. She serves on several local boards and is the 2020 recipient of the Jenny Thurston Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of historic preservation from the Historic Macon Foundation.
The link for the live event will also be posted on the Georgia Archives’ Facebook page on Friday morning, August 13. Microsoft Teams currently supports these browsers: Internet Explorer II, Microsoft Edge, RS2 or later, the latest version of Chrome, and the latest version of Firefox.
If you plan on using an iPhone or tablet, you may need to download the Teams app.
Lunch and Learn Programs are sponsored by Friends of Georgia Archives and History (FOGAH).
