Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission Meeting

The purpose of the Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission is to protect, preserve, and promote the City's historic resources. The Historic Preservation Commission is empowered to regulate the demolition, relocation, or any material change to the exterior of historic resources and non-historic resources located in the Valdosta Local Historic District. Any exterior material changes, including installing signs, to properties within the Local Historic District, must first receive a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) from the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). The HPC is also tasked with several other responsibilities, including recommending historic properties for local historic designation. A full listing of the HPC's powers and duties can be found in the City of Valdosta Land Development Regulations, Chapter 238, Section 238-5.
The Valdosta Historic Preservation Commission meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Building, Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 North Lee Street. Meetings are open to the public. View the 2021 Meeting Schedule.

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Airport Authority is a political subdivision of the State of Georgia created by an act of the General Assembly (H.B. No. 893) and was established effective May 1, 1987. The basic responsibility of the Authority is to construct, own, maintain, expand, and operate any and all public airports in Lowndes County. The Authority is charged with establishing, maintaining, and operating a unified and coordinated airport system for public welfare, safety, and convenience. The Authority has all the powers necessary or convenient for its purposes, including the power to contract for, lease, acquire, and dispose of any and all property required to accomplish the Authority's responsibilities. The Authority has the responsibility to properly manage and account for all assets that come into its possession. The operating budget of the Authority shall be funded equally by the City and County from the general revenues of the local governments. The Authority is responsible for developing and expanding sources of revenue generated by airport operations to reduce the need for local government revenues where such is reasonable and proper.

The City of Valdosta Mayor and Council meet for Work Session on the Tuesday before the first City Council meeting of each month. The Work Session allows Council Members to spend an adequate amount of time discussing agenda items and hear special presentations relative to the agenda. These meetings are open to the general public. Work Session Meetings are recorded; however, minutes for the Work Session are not transcribed.

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals is responsible for reviewing and deciding specific appeals made by individuals concerning the interpretation or administration of the Construction Codes.
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets every quarter, the second Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. at the City Hall Annex Building, Inspections Conference Room, 1st Floor, 300 North Lee Street, Valdosta. Any City resident interested in serving on the Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals should submit a completed General Membership Application and a signed Code of Ethics Form to Teresa Bolden, City Clerk, located in the City Manager and Mayor's office in City Hall, 216 East Central Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601. In addition, residents residing in unincorporated Lowndes County should contact the County Clerk at (229) 671-2400.

Valdosta City Council Meeting
