Fiscal Year 2021-2024 Transportation Improvement Program Available for Public Comment
Monday, November 9th, 2020
The public comment period for the FY21-24 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), for the Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Planning Area is available for public review and comment from November 1, 2020 until November 30, 2020. The TIP identifies the transportation projects and strategies from the Vision2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan that the VLMPO plans to undertake over the next four years. All projects receiving federal funding must be in the TIP as the TIP is the region's way of allocating its limited transportation resources among the various capital and operating needs of the area, based on a clear set of short-term transportation priorities. The TIP is updated every four years and is incorporated into the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). Projects within the TIP will help increase the efficiency and safety of the transportation network in the Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Planning Area, which includes all of Lowndes County and portions of Berrien, Brooks and Lanier Counties.
One significant change in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is the incorporation of national safety and time travel reliability performance measures and targets. In accordance with the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), states and MPOs are required to jointly develop quantifiable targets for transportation plans based on regulations promulgated by the Federal Highway and Transit Administrations. These performance measures and targets will also help to inform the public of specific projects that may be most beneficial to the community. This TIP aims to help support national and local goals as well as create a more efficient transportation network through strategic transportation project investment over the next four years.
During the FY21-24 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) public comment period, the SGRC will host an Open House on November 18, 2020 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Southern Georgia Regional Commission to allow the public to review and submit comments.
