Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Monday, August 26th, 2019
Valdosta Main Street will host its annual ‘Taste of Downtown’ event on Thursday, September 12th from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
The event that was started back in 2015, is held by Valdosta Main Street, Valdosta’s downtown development authority, and downtown restaurants such as 306 North, Covington’s Dining & Catering, Bleu Pub, Bleu Café, Georgia Beer Co., Jessie’s Restaurant & Catering, El Camino, La Meza and Kreamkles.
“Taste of Downtown is such a fun event. It’s a way for people to get downtown, sample the different restaurants and experience what the restaurants are all about,” says Rachel Thrasher, Main Street Coordinator. “So one thing we’re doing this year differently is you’ll be able to walk from place to place so you can not only experience the food they have but also the restaurant’s environment.”
Check in will be from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM at Georgia Beer Co. where you will receive your wristband and map. At each stop, you will receive a small dish and small pour.. There will also be live street musicians along the way.
“It’s an important bridge to bring the rest of Valdosta into downtown. I think there is a lot that people don’t know about downtown and it has a lot to offer--the culture and history that’s important to this city and the community. This is a really good opportunity to bring everyone together, get some new people in here and freshen it up a bit,” says Ronnie Yale, Bleu Café’s Front House Manager.
If you want to join the fun, tickets are $50 and can be purchased in the Main Street office in the City Hall Annex.
