Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968. King is remembered for his non-violent protests against segregation and his "I Have a Dream" speech and had a seismic impact on race relations in the United States, beginning in the mid-1950s.

The goal of the Housing Authority is to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for the citizens of Valdosta and Lowndes County, while at the same time being responsive to the citizens and residents for the economically sound operation of the Authority in its day-to-day operations.

Valdosta is operated under a Council/Manager form of government with an elected Mayor and seven elected council members.  View Council District Map. Valdosta relies on the city manager for all the daily operational functions while the Mayor/Council is charged with setting policy. Jan. 24  | Blazers National Championship Celebration

6:00 PM - VSU Front Lawn

It's time to celebrate your Blazers’ thrilling 49-47 victory in the NCAA Division II Football National Championship! At 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, the team will be escorted to the Front Lawn by the Valdosta State University Police Department with full lights and sirens! Once the National Champions have arrived, there will be a Blazer Walk and a full game-style runout.

The event will also include:

- Speeches from the team, coaches, and community leaders

- Autograph signings

- Live music

- National Championship merchandise for sale

- Face tattoos

- Food and drinks
