Clifford “Jamie” Dixon has been named Colquitt County High School principal and will take the reins on July 1, 2018. Dixon replaces retiring CCHS Principal Stephanie Terrell.

The Colquitt County Board of Education voted to hire Dixon during its regular meeting Monday night.

Dixon earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from North Georgia College and State University. He received his teaching certificate from Georgia State University, and his master’s in leadership from Kennesaw State University.

 Dixon brings a vast amount of varied experiences to the position of CCHS principal. He spent four years in the United States Marine Corps reaching the rank of sergeant and serving as a squad leader.

After leaving the service, Dixon worked for the Fulton County Police Department for eight years beginning as a patrolman, then a detective and field training supervisor. Dixon, with a motivation to serve others, added to his skill set and became a fireman/EMT with the Fulton County Fire Department where he worked for eight years, achieving the position of company commander before retiring from Fulton County with 20 years of combined service, including his military.

 Dixon, at age 38, took a position as student resource officer at Milton High School in Milton, Ga. Due to his experience and job performance, his principal asked him to pursue his teaching certificate.

Dixon began teaching a newly added criminal justice/law class that next school year. He worked for the Fulton County Schools for a total of ten years (nine at Milton High School and one at Cambridge High School).

Dixon taught, as well as coached, for several years before becoming athletic director for Milton High School.

He then became an assistant principal, and due to his success there, was asked to serve as an assistant principal for a brand new Fulton County school, Cambridge High School.  

In 2013, Dixon became the principal of East Jackson Comprehensive High School in Jefferson, Ga., where he is still currently employed.

“Teri and I are extremely excited to become the newest members of the Packer Nation,” Dixon said. “We have been impressed with the community, the hospitality (demonstrated by everyone we have met), and the atmosphere that is Moultrie, Georgia. I’m honored to have been selected to lead Colquitt County High School. I will work diligently to earn the respect of the students, staff, and stakeholders as we all seek out perfection in an effort to catch excellence. Go Packers!”

Superintendent Doug Howell shared, “Since Mr. Dixon became principal of East Jackson Comprehensive High School, it has seen record improvement in CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance) scores, graduation rate, and student/staff morale.

“Mr. Dixon has a passion for students and for helping them to achieve success,” Howell continued. “He brings a wealth of experience to the position of Colquitt County High School principal. I am sure his knowledge and expertise will serve our students, teachers, system, and community well. Mr. Dixon has a proven track record as an outstanding leader with the Marines, police department, fire department, and as a school administrator.”

Dixon and his wife, Teri, have three children — Katherine, Parker (wife Kayla), and Mason — and one grandchild, Eden.
