SGMC Pearlman Cancer Center to Host Yoga Event Today

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

The Pearlman Cancer Center at South Georgia Medical Center will host a free yoga class for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers on Jan. 9 from 5:30-6:30pm in the cancer center lobby. The event is in partnership with the Christina Phipps Foundation which provides specialized training to experienced yoga instructors enabling them to guide cancer patients, survivors, and others with range of motion and pain limitations.

According to healthline.com, therapeutic activities like yoga can complement cancer-fighting medical treatment to help heal the body, mind, and spirit in the midst of the cancer battle.

The class will be led by volunteer Joyce Lee, who is certified through the foundation. Those interested in participating should bring their own mat, and a permission note from their physician if currently undergoing treatment.
