Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

The Airmen and Family Readiness Center hosted a ‘grand reopening’ Nov. 29, 2017, here.

The AFRC never completely closed, but relocated to the Freedom 1 Fitness Center; they held the event as the grand finale to their month of the military family campaign and to showcase their new location to Moody.

“With this event we want to make people aware of our new location,” said Peggy Beauvais, 23d Force Support Squadron AFRC flight chief. “A lot of people are still going to our old location looking for us and we want them to know our new location so they can come and see us.”

The AFRC is responsible for many programs designed to help Airmen and their families with numerous aspects of military life.

“My favorite part about my job is helping Airmen with whatever they need,” said Beauvais. “The 15 different programs we offer make us crucial to mission readiness and we want people to take advantage of these services.”

From resources for families planning to have babies to post and pre-deployment help, the AFRC provides information to assist in countless situations.

“My husband has deployed twice since we’ve been here and the second year we went to the AFRC to get ‘daddy dolls’,” said Stephanie Rivera, wife of Capt. Kevin Rivera, 71st Rescue Squadron weapons and tactics officer. “It depends on the age of the child, but it really helped my 6-year-old. She would sleep with it and hold it and it helped her get through it.

“It’s reassuring to know that those resources are there and every base you go to may offer something different,” Rivera added. “In the 12 years my husband has been in that was the first time I’ve gotten ‘daddy dolls’ and I think it was really nice. I recommend new military families go there and find out what they offer.”
