Oct. 3 | Zoning Board of Appeals Meets
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Lee Street. See city calendar.
Oct. 3 | City Council Meets for Work Session
The Valdosta City Council will meet for a work session on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m., on the 2nd floor of the Valdosta City Hall Council Chambers, located at 216 E. Central Avenue. View work session agenda.
Oct. 3 | VFD Citizens Fire Academy Meets
The Valdosta Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy continues on Oct. 3 for citizens enrolled in the nine-week program. This week's session will focus on personal protective equipment, search and rescue, and department and emergency communication. The Citizens Fire Academy is designed to give a behind-the-scenes look into one of the top ISO-rated fire departments in the state. Oct. 4 | Walk to School Day
Pinevale Elementary School will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The event will begin at 7:15 a.m. with students, parents and community leaders walking from Mildred Hunter Center, located at 509 S. Fry Street. Walk to School Day raises awareness to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasizes the importance of increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. Oct. 4 | VPD Hosts Community Forum
The Valdosta Police Department will host the second out of three community forums to hear feedback and concerns from the community on a proposed new Curfew and Parental Responsibility Ordinance on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m., at the Mildred Hunter Center, located at 509 S. Oct. 5 | Valdosta City Council Meets
The Valdosta City Council will meet on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m., on the second floor of the Valdosta City Hall Council Chambers, located at 216 E. Central Avenue. The VPD will be recognized at the meeting by Executive Director Craig Hartley of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, who will present the VPD and city leadership with the department’s international reaccreditation award.
