Oct. 17 | VSU Journalism Students Meet with Mayor
Mayor John Gayle will welcome Ted Geltner’s News Writing Class from Valdosta State University for a mock press conference, on Oct. 17, at 3:45 p.m., at Valdosta City Hall. The students will tour City Hall and participate in a mock press conference, which will be held in the second floor City Council Chambers. The city hosts this event each semester to provide the students with practical application for their future news writing careers and to introduce them to local government. Oct. 17 | Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority Meets

Oct. 17 | VFD Citizens Fire Academy Meets
The Valdosta Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy continues on Oct. 17 for citizens enrolled in the nine-week program. This week's session will focus on live burn and firefighter rehabilitation presented by the Training Division. The Citizens Fire Academy is designed to give a behind-the-scenes look into one of the top ISO-rated fire departments in the state. Oct. 18 | Goodwill on the Go
The City of Valdosta's Neighborhood Development Division and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, Inc. will host the next career development workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Oct. 19 | VFD Host Puppet Shows for Fire Prevention Month
October is National Fire Prevention Month, and the Valdosta Fire Department has various educational events- such as station tours, puppet shows and school visits, etc.-planned to teach and reinforce the lessons of fire prevention. On Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m., the VFD will host puppet shows at the Valdosta Mall to teach children fire safety tips. Oct. 19 | Valdosta Youth Council Meets
The Valdosta Youth Council will hold its regularly-scheduled meeting, on Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers of Valdosta City Hall, located at 216 E. Oct. 19 | 2017 City of Valdosta Employee Health Fair
The 2017 City of Valdosta Employee Health Fair will be held on Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Mathis City Auditorium, located at 2300 N. Ashley Street. The fair is open to City of Valdosta employees, retirees and their family members and will include a variety of health screenings and valuable health and wellness information.
