Area Agency on Aging Hosts Resource Event on Halloween

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, October 19th, 2017

Getting older doesn’t have to be scary. Fight the fright with resources in our area that increase the independence of older adults in our community.

The Southern Georgia Area Agency on Aging will present these resources at the Halloween Hotdog Luncheon, on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 12 noon, at the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority Senior Center. Agency representatives will provide information to seniors about the services the Area Agency on Aging provides, including information about the Assisted Technology Lab coming soon to Valdosta and the state- and federally-funded Georgia Cares program.

“We want our people to know about the Southern Georgia Area Agency on Aging and how these programs benefit aging adults in Valdosta and the surrounding county,” said Valdosta Mayor John Gayle. “The agency provides valuable resources, as well as information about volunteer opportunities for our senior adults and other ways to find satisfaction in life in the golden years.”

Mayor Gayle appointed Lou McClendon to represent the City of Valdosta on the Southern Georgia Area Agency on Aging. McClendon will work with other agency members to expose the services that assist older individuals, at-risk adults, persons with disabilities, their families, and caregivers, with the ultimate goal of assisting people in living longer, living safely, and living well.

The Senior Center is located at 200 Park Avenue. This event is free and open to residents ages 50 and older. For more information about the Oct. 31 event, call McClendon at 229-834-2401 or the Senior Center at 229-259-5470.
