Moody’s annual Operational Cinderella, a donation drive for formal women’s attire, is in full swing and is slated to run until Sept. 16, here.

Operation Cinderella is a nation-wide donation drive that was adopted by Moody in order to gain maximum participation for the upcoming Air Force Ball by providing free formal women’s attire to those who wish to attend.

“It’s important that everyone has a chance to attend the ball and we want to make sure spouses and civilians don’t feel like that they can’t attend just because they may not have a dress,” said Tech. Sgt. Lysandra Anderson, 23d Force Support Squadron Readiness NCO. “It’s our role to make sure our Airmen are taken care of, so this is just a small thing that we can do to take some of the burden off of them.”

When attending the Air Force Ball, military members must wear their semi-formal or mess dress uniform and their spouses or civilians must wear formal attire, such as a suit or ball gown.

These gowns or dresses can be donated or acquired at Moody’s thrift shop during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

“After 18 years of marriage, two children and 20 years of my husband serving active duty, he is finally taking me to the ball,” said one spouse utilizing Operation Cinderella to get a dress. “[When I came to pick out a dress] it made me feel like a real-life Cinderella.

“I am so thankful that this program has allowed me to feel beautiful and appreciated after all of these years,” she continued. “It’s a dream come true.”

Last year, the donation drive resulted in more than 70 dresses being donated for those who wished to attend the ball. These recipients are invited to keep their dress or accessories as long as they wish, but are encouraged to continue the giving cycle by donating the attire in years to come.
