May 8-13 | It's National Drinking Water Week
The City of Valdosta will observe National Drinking Water Week with a proclamation event on Wednesday and facility tours throughout the week. The observance recognizes the critical role that quality drinking water plays in the local economy, fire protection, and the overall quality of life for citizens.
May 8-12 | Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series
The popular lunch-time concert series is back in Downtown Valdosta, Monday, May 8 through Friday, May 12. Each day a different band will perform live music from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Lowndes County Courthouse lawn. View band lineup for each day, or call the Main Street office at 229-259-3577.
May 8-9 | Road Repairs on Charlton Street
The portion of Charlton Street, between East Gordon Street and Hamilton Street, will be closed for necessary roadway repairs, from Monday, May 8, at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, May 9, at 3 p.m.
This repair work will impact traffic flow in both directions on Charlton Street. Motorists are urged to adhere to all control devices in place to detour traffic around the area. For more information, contact the Engineering Department at 229-259-3530.
May 9 | Mayor's Council for Persons with Disabilities Meets
The Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities will meet on Tuesday, May 9, at 1 p.m., at Goodwill Industries. The meeting is open to individuals who have an interest in making Valdosta a “City Without Limits” for community members with disabilities. May 9 | City Council Meets for Work Session
The Mayor and City Council will meet for a work session on Tuesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., which allows council members to spend an adequate amount of time discussing agenda items. The meeting is open to the general public and is held in the second floor Council Chambers of City Hall, at 216 E. Central Avenue.
May 10 | Airport Authority Meets
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Airport Authority will meet on Wednesday, May 10, at 8 a.m., at the Airport Conference Room, located at 1750 Airport Road. See city calendar.
May 10 | Mayor Issues Proclamation for National Drinking Water Week
Valdosta Mayor John Gayle will present a proclamation to the Water Treatment Plant staff in observance of National Drinking Water Week, on Wednesday, May 10, at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the 3863 Guest Road plant location. Public is invited.
May 10 | Transportation Roundtable Discussion
Gary Wisenbaker, Transportation Policy Committee Leader, will host the first "Members To Be Heard" meeting on Wednesday, May 10, at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Lowndes County Administration Building, second-floor Community Room. The discussion will focus on transportation issues that impact business development in our community.
May 11 | Valdosta City Council Meets
The Mayor and City Council members invite citizens to attend the City Council meeting on Thursday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m., at Valdosta City Hall, Second-Floor Council Chambers, located at 216 E. Central Avenue. This meeting will feature the graduation of the Valdosta Youth Council, the Employee of the Month presentation, and other city business. See City Council agenda.
May 12 | Educational Class: Invasive Species and the Urban Forest
The Georgia Urban Forest Council will hold their Quarterly Program in Valdosta on Friday, May 12, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex, located at 300 N. Lee Street. Attendees will learn about invasive species in the urban forests, available treatments for invasive insects and plants, alternatives for invasive landscape trees in Georgia, and opportunities to influence the use of native plant material in commercial landscapes. May 13 | Build a Bouquet for Mom
The Build a Bouquet event, hosted by Valdosta Main Street, will be held on Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participants can enjoy an interactive day with merchants, which results in a beautiful floral arrangement for Mom. For every minimum $20 purchase at a participating downtown merchant, your receipt becomes your ticket to collect a flower from all of the participating merchants (while supplies last). May 13 | Farm Days Continues
The popular Downtown Valdosta Farm Days will continue this Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the 100 block of E. Valley Street, located behind the historic courthouse in downtown Valdosta. May 13 | Candelight Vigil
To kick off National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week (May 14-20), Blue Line Ladies, Inc. is sponsoring a Candlelight Vigil on Saturday, May 13, 2017. The blue ribbons displayed around the Lowndes County Courthouse honor the 144 lives lost in the line of duty during 2016. The public is invited to attend this community event.
