May 23 | Lowndes County Board of Health Meets
The Lowndes County Board of Health will meet on Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 a.m., at the Lowndes County Health Department, First Floor Conference Room, located at 206 S. Patterson Street. See city calendar.
May 23 | Tourism Authority Meets
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority will meet on Tuesday, May 23, at 8 a.m., at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center, Executive Conference Room 1, located at 1 Meeting Place. See city calendar.
May 23 | Recycling 101*
Media and citizens who are interested in how recyclables are collected, sorted and disseminated are invited to the city’s recycling compound, on Tuesday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m., located at 1017 Myrtle Street. Read more.
May 24 | Public Works Employee Appreciation Luncheon*
City of Valdosta Public Works Department employees will be treated to an Employee Appreciation Luncheon, at Mathis Auditorium, on Wednesday, May 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The guest speaker for the event is Nate Tyler, Thomas County Director of Solid Waste and Landfill Operations. May 25 | Adopt-A-Street Campaign*
Individuals, families, organizations, businesses, etc., are encouraged to sign up to adopt a city street to prevent local litter and to keep our city beautiful. Information provided by the Public Works Department and Keep Lowndes Valdosta Beautiful will be available at the 1017 Myrtle Street facility, on Thursday, May 25, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Read more.
May 25 | Valdosta City Council Meets
The Mayor and City Council members invite citizens to attend the City Council meeting on Thursday, May 25, at 5:30 p.m., at Valdosta City Hall, Second-Floor Council Chambers, located at 216 E. Central Avenue. Among other business, the City will honor the 2017 Preservation Award winners, as part of our city’s observance of National Historic Preservation Month. May 26 | Touch-A-Truck*
Area youth are invited to participate and be captivated by the big city trucks used by Public Works and other departments of the city. The Touch-A-Truck event will take place on the Public Works facility grounds on Friday, May 26, from 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m., at 1017 Myrtle Street. Read more.
May 26 | "Make and Take" Rain Barrel Lunch & Learn
Have you ever wondered what rainwater harvesting is or how to do it? Our Engineering Department will teach participants all about harvesting rainwater and the importance of it on Friday, May 26, at 12-1:30 p.m. The event will be held in the City Hall Annex, Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Lee Street. Reservations are required. Each participant will receive one 55 gallon rainbarrel to make and take home. All supplies will be provided. For more information contact 229-259-3530.
May 27 | Farm Days Continues
The popular Downtown Valdosta Farm Days will continue this Saturday, May 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the 100 block of E. Valley Street, located behind the historic courthouse in downtown Valdosta. May 29 | City Announces Memorial Day Sanitation Schedule
The City of Valdosta will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. The Sanitation Division will collect residential garbage only on Monday, May 29. Citizens who normally have their sanitation collected on Mondays should place their recyclables and yard waste at the curbside by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30 for both Monday and Tuesday pickups. The Public Works Department appreciates citizens’ cooperation and patience as sanitation workers do their best to pick up both routes—over 7,000 customers—on Tuesday. May 29 | Community Invited to Memorial Day Observance
A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery, on Monday, May 29, at 10 a.m., in honor of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
