SGMC and LifeLink Raise Awareness of Organ Donation

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017

This April, during the federally sanctioned National Donate Life Month, LifeLink of Georgia and South Georgia Medical Center honor the spirit of those individuals who make transplants possible—organ, tissue, and eye donors. We celebrate the lives of those who received their second chance - and finally, we call attention to the more than 121,000 - over 5,400 of whom are local men, women and children - still waiting for their gifts of life across the United States.

SGMC and LifeLink of Georgia will host a free lunch and learn featuring Nashville native Laurie Carter, mother of an organ donor. The event is April 14 from 11am-12pm in SGMC Main Campus Dining Rooms 1 & 2. RSVP to 229-433-1070. Carter will share her story of losing her 16 year old son in a  tragic vehicle accident and their subsequent experience with organ donation.

“Each year we work together with community partners to inform Georgians about the importance of organ and tissue donation,” says Kathleen Lilly, Executive Director of LifeLink of Georgia. “During Donate Life Month and every month, we share vital information about organ and tissue donation throughout the state and encourage every Georgian to learn the facts and commit to saving lives.”
