Julia Rodriquez Named President of Georgia College Press Association’s Executive Board

Valdosta State University’s Julia Rodriquez is the new president of the Georgia College Press Association’s executive board. Her one-year term began Feb. 11.
 
“I am excited to be elected president,” she said. “There is a lot I want to accomplish. I’ve already started reaching out to the other board members so we can get to work.”
 
Rodriquez is the managing editor of The Spectator, VSU’s independent student newspaper. She previously served as a staff writer, assistant opinions editor, and opinions editor.
 
The Georgia College Press Association is comprised of 23 collegiate newspapers. As president, Rodriquez will lead a nine-member executive board in assisting in the betterment of Georgia collegiate journalism.
 
Rodriquez is a regular on the Dean’s List and won third place in the 2015 Georgia College Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest for Best Book Review. She is an English tutor in the Student Success Center. She currently has an internship with the University of Georgia Tifton Campus, where her work is published on the university’s website. She is also a member of VSU’s chapter of Her Campus, the national online magazine for college women.
 
“I want to do everything I can to be a versatile writer,” she said.
 
Rodriquez expects to graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in journalism. She would like to get a job working for a newspaper. She is a regular reader of The New York Times and dreams of becoming a member of its staff.
 
Rodriquez is the daughter of John and Jodie Rodriquez of Fort Plain, N.Y.
