Free Community Screening of the Movie “Our Soldier" March 2nd

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

The community is invited to a free screening of the movie “Our Soldier,” hosted by the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts, on Thursday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m.

Produced by Jotja Bessems and the Foundation Samenwerkende Heemkunde Organisaties Margraten, “Our Soldier” is an award-winning independent documentary about the emotional bond between two continents, which is still strong 70 years after World War II. It follows a couple who adopted the grave of an American soldier at the US military cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands, from the moment they meet the soldier’s family. The film shows how generations pass on the involvement with the adoption and Europe’s liberators.

This event is sponsored by Ms. Eleanor Howard and endorsed by the Valdosta-Lowndes County Film Initiative, VSU Mass Media Department, and Valdosta-Lowndes Tourism Authority. Valdosta is proud to host this film, which has appeared in several festivals and events concerning war and liberation in Europe and the US.

The event will be held at the Turner Center for the Arts, located at 527 N. Patterson Street. Refreshments will be provided, and beverages will be available for purchase. Reservations are highly recommended for this event, as seating is limited.
