Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc. will soon begin teaching gardening techniques to homeless clients in the New Horizon Shelter.  Pepsi Co. donated plastic bottles and supplies while Home Depot provided materials and wood to build a greenhouse at the shelter.  Students at Valdosta State University in the Enactus organization began clearing out space and building the greenhouse.  Clients of the shelter will  learn how to grow their own fruits and vegetables.   Recently, clients also learned how to sew and make pillows and clothing by Day Center Manager, Gayle Moreen.  LAMP's motto of, "A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out" has further provided homeless clients the opportunities to learn basic day to day needs such as nutrition and growing your their own food, and mock interviewing.  If a church, organization or individual is interested in volunteering or supporting the New Horizons shelter at LAMP, contact can be made to [email protected] or by calling 229-245-7157.
