Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc. began their 2017 year with new board President, Courtney Gooding, Vice President, Pam Perry, Secretary, Tocsha Brown and Treasurer, Michael Walker. The organization also welcomed new board members: Brittney Hull, Jay Prince, Kerry Morris, Shelly Collins and Heidi Cox. Gooding and Perry served on the 2016 Executive Board as Vice President and Secretary, respectfully, under the leadership of Tina Folsom. Board Presidents serve in that capacity for a year, and under Folsom’s leadership, LAMP was able to transition from calendar year to fiscal year, secure ESG, secure Rapid Re-Housing grant, increase awareness of the homeless shelter, develop a quarterly newsletter and implement a strategic plan for the future success of LAMP, Inc.
Gooding is committed to continuing the vision of LAMP as well as the structure and community support for the client’s needs. Her passion, leadership and understanding of the shelter makes Gooding a great fit to the leadership of the LAMP Executive Board. LAMP was started in 1984 by a small group of individuals, churches, and the synagogue in Lowndes County, Georgia. It was originally established as a clearinghouse that would monitor and steward the distribution of local assistance dollars. Over the years, LAMP has become more than just a clearinghouse, it is now Lowndes County and the surrounding area’s local mission for the homeless. LAMP is partially-funded through government grants, but relies heavily on private donations and must show community support to receive matching grant dollars.
