Oct. 24-29 | Military Retiree Appreciation Week
Moody Air Force Base is hosting Military Retiree Appreciation Week Oct. 24-29. Retirees from all branches of service are honored for serving our nation with specials and discounts at Moody facilities as well as some special events. Oct. 24-30 | Early Voting Continues in Lowndes County
Citizens may exercise their right to vote in the General Election now through Nov. 8. Early voting continues this week Monday-Friday, from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Citizens may also take advantage of the weekend voting options on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. Visit the My Voter Page, at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov, hosted by the Georgia Secretary of State, which contains specific voter information or contact the Board of Elections at 229-671-2850.

Oct. 25 | Week #9 of VFD Citizens Fire Academy
The Valdosta Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy will hold a graduation ceremony for the 18 citizens who have completed the 9-week program, on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m., at VFD Station #1. For information, call 229-333-1835.
 
Oct. 26 | City Employees Inspire Youth for Career Day
Several City of Valdosta employees are participating in the J.L. Newbern Middle School Career Day on Wednesday, Oct. 26, to inspire local youth on the importance of staying in school, excelling in academics and planning a rewarding career in public service.
 
Oct. 27 | Week #7 of the VPD Citizens Police Academy
The Citizens Police Academy will meet for week #7 on Oct. 27, at 8:40 a.m. to tour the Valdosta State Prison. The goal of the CPA is to give citizens a better understanding of the internal workings of a modern day law enforcement agency and, at the same time, promote a team concept between the VPD and the citizens they serve. Oct. 27 | City of Valdosta Employee Health Fair & Blood Drive
Members of the community are invited to give the gift of life at the City of Valdosta Blood Drive on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at VFD Station #1. Employees and retirees of the City of Valdosta and their family members are also invited to the annual Employee Health Fair that takes place at the same time, which is jam-packed with useful information about health and wellness.
 
Oct. 27 | Valdosta Wastewater and Flood Prevention
Residents are invited to hear Utilities Director Henry Hicks and Assistant Director of Engineering Emily Davenport give updates on the city’s new wastewater treatment plant and stormwater management program, respectively. City Councilman Tim Carroll will make a brief presentation on the use of solar power in Valdosta, and a Public Information table will have an abundance of information to inspire attendees toward public service. The event takes place in the Valdosta City Hall Multi-Purpose Room, on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 6-7 p.m. Call 850-290-2350.
