VSU Ready for Move-In Days
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Tuesday, August 9th, 2016
Valdosta State University will kick off Move-In Days at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, when first-year students begin arriving on campus and moving into their home away from home in Langdale Hall. The doors will open to freshmen moving into Georgia Hall at 9 a.m. and Reade Hall at noon.
“Move-in day is one of the most exciting days of the year,” said Niki Turley, associate dean of students and interim director of Housing and Residence Life.
Move-In Days will continue on Wednesday, Aug. 10, with first-year students moving into Patterson Hall at 8 a.m., Lowndes Hall at 9 a.m., and Brown Hall at noon. Upperclassmen are scheduled to move into Centennial Hall, Converse Hall, and Hopper Hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12.
An estimated 2,900 students are expected to call one of VSU’s nine residence halls home during the 2016-2017 academic year. This includes about 200 students from the South Georgia State College Entry Program at VSU.
VSU has planned a series of events — known as Fall Explosion — to engage new and returning students in purposeful extracurricular activities and help them acclimate, or re-acclimate, to college life. These events will run throughout the month of August and include movie night, karaoke night, free game room night, a skate block party, a mixer, smoothies and snow cones, a volunteer service day, and, of course, The Happening.
Fall semester classes will start Monday, Aug. 15.
