August 2 | ZBOA Meets
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Zoning Board of Appeals will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m., in City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The ZBOA hears all variance requests and appeals regarding staff interpretations to the City of Valdosta Zoning Ordinance. Contact the city’s Planning and Zoning Office at 229-259-3563 for details.
August 4-5 | First Day of School for Area Schools
Area youth head back into the classroom for Lowndes County Schools on Thursday, August 4 and for the Valdosta City School System on Friday, August 5. Motorists are urged to drive with extra caution, especially in neighborhoods, around bus stops and in school zones.
August 5 | First Friday Featuring Art Walk
The popular First Friday event will take place this Friday, August 5 and will feature live music, dining specials and shopping, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will also feature Art Walk, a special quarterly event that encourages appreciation of the arts. Enjoy the nightly fun that the community expects on the first Friday of every month in Downtown Valdosta. Downtown Valdosta has been the site of the 100 Black Men BBQ each August since 1995, and the event takes place once again this Saturday, August 6, beginning at 9 a.m. Attendees at the cook-off can expect a family-oriented atmosphere, full of food, fun and laughter. Musical entertainment is also provided.
