Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Wednesday, August 10th, 2016

“Hometown Teams” will capture the stories that unfold on the neighborhood fields and courts, and the underdog heroics, larger-than-life legends, fierce rivalries and gut-wrenching defeats. For more than 100 years, sports have reflected the trials and triumphs of the American experience and helped shape the national character. Whether it is professional sports or those played on the collegiate or scholastic level, amateur sports or sports played by kids on the local playground, sports are everywhere in America.

Hometown Teams is  part of Museums on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state humanities councils nationwide.  In addition to the Smithsonian exhibit a companion exhibit has Berrien County sports history has also been prepared.  The Smithsonian Hometown Teams exhibit will be housed in the Nashville Community Center, 107 North Davis Street and the Berrien County Hometown Teams exhibit will be house in the Old Courthouse at 101 North Davis Street.  Both exhibits will be open Monday through Saturday 10 am until 5 pm and Sunday 1 pm until 5 pm.
