Angela Hobby, Vice President for Enrollment Management at Wiregrass Technical College, selected along with 24 employees of the Technical College System of Georgia, has completed the TCSG Executive Leadership Academy for 2015 – 2016.
Participation in the academy is highly selective and required a ten month commitment to complete the program. Angela Hobby was nominated to attend the academy by Wiregrass Georgia Technical College's President Dr. Tina K. Anderson and approved by TCSG Commissioner Gretchen Corbin. The selected group started participation in July 2015 and graduated at the May 2016 meeting.
The participants were divided into groups to complete a research project on hot topics in higher education such as faculty compensation, addressing sexual prevention programs on campuses, enrolment trends, and comparisons of early college credit programs across the nation. The group Hobby was part of researched early college credit, career academies and programs called P-Tech. “We compared each type of program that provides early college credit opportunities for high school students for student success outcomes, college credit attainment and alignment with industry needs,” shared Hobby. “Our outcomes were presented to the TCSG College Presidents for their review this past March.”
The academy is designed to acquaint participants with the leadership and managerial responsibilities of TCSG executives. While the program is specifically geared to the policies and procedures of the TCSG, the curriculum is sufficiently broad in scope to have application to public two-year colleges in any state and includes topics ranging from ethics and board operations to institutional effectiveness, accreditation issues, strategic planning, and more.
