May 23-25 | District 1 of GACP Meets
The City of Valdosta welcomes dozens of Police Chiefs from across the state to the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police District 1 three‐day Training Course, May 23-25, in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The 24‐hours of training has been approved by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police as meeting the requirements of executive/management level training for Chiefs of Police and heads of law enforcement agencies, as set forth in Georgia Code 35‐8‐20, and will include training such as Liability, Media Relations, Human and FEMA.

May 23-27 | Community Art Project Underway at Smith Park
The Public Art Advisory Board is sponsoring a community public art project at Smith Park —located on Hwy 84 east where it splits before coming into the downtown area. When finished, this public art will welcome visitors at the east gateway into downtown Valdosta. Artist in Residence Jeff Mather is leading the project and welcomes all input from the community, every day from 8 am to 12 noon and 12 noon to 4 pm., until the end of the month, including over the three-day weekend. May 26 | SEEDS for Success Learning Series, Part #2
Hosted in partnership with Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce, this four-part learning series is part of the Valdosta-Lowndes Business University and designed specifically for anyone who is interested in turning their business idea into a reality. May 27 | A Memorial Day Tribute
Pruitt-Health Holly Hill is hosting a Special Memorial Day Tribute to honor its veteran residents and heroes in our community, on May 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Mayor John Gayle will issue a proclamation and several other community leaders and veterans will participate. May 30 | City Announces Memorial Day Sanitation Schedule
The City of Valdosta will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. The Sanitation Division will collect residential garbage only on Monday, May 30. Citizens who normally have their sanitation collected on Mondays should place their recyclables, special pickup (junk piles) and yard waste at the curbside by 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31 for both Monday and Tuesday pickups. The Public Works Department appreciates citizens’ cooperation and patience as sanitation workers do their best to pick up both routes—over 7,000 customers—on Tuesday. May 30 | Citizens Invited to Memorial Day Ceremony
A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery, on Monday, May 30, at 10 a.m., in honor of those who have died serving our country. Mayor John Gayle and Valdosta Chief of Police Brian Childress will participate in this patriotic community event, along with others community leaders.
