ALL WEEK:  Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series Daily, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The popular lunch-time concert series is back in Downtown Valdosta, Monday, May 9 through Friday, May 13.  Each day a different band will perform live music from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Lowndes County Courthouse lawn. May 10 | Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities Meets
The Valdosta Mayor’s Council for Persons with Disabilities will meet on Tuesday, May 10, at 1 p.m., at Department of Labor Building. The meeting is open to individuals who have an interest in making Valdosta a “City Without Limits” for community members with disabilities. For more information, call (229) 245-2498.
 
May 10 | CVDA Board Meets
The Central Valdosta Development Authority will meet Tuesday, at 5 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The CVDA manages the process of enhancing downtown's position as the governmental, cultural, and economic center of the Greater Lowndes County area by involving businesses, property owners, government, churches and the entire community.  For more information, call 229-259-3577.

May 12 | Citizens Police Academy Meets for Week #9
Citizens enrolled in the Valdosta Citizens Police Academy are in week #9 of a 10-week program and will visit a shooting simulator for today’s session. The academy is free and is one of three citizens information programs designed to engage and educate citizens on their local government.

May 13 | Deadline to Comment on Annual Action Plan
Citizens have until Friday, May 13, at 5 p.m., to submit their written or online comments to the Neighborhood Development Division, located in the Valdosta City Hall Annex, Room 206. The city invites citizens to review of its Annual Action Plan, which provides information on the usage of the Community Development Block Grant funding for FY2016. Citizens may view the Annual Action Plan and submit their comments online, or call 229-671-3617 for details.

May 14 | Cemetery Street Renaming Honors Valdosta Public Servant
Laurel Avenue, which runs from the entrance to the west end of Sunset Hill Cemetery, will be renamed to "Melvin Nelson Way" at a ceremony on Saturday, May 14, beginning at 9 a.m. The Valdosta City Council unanimously approved the street renaming at their March 24 City Council meeting to honor Nelson who worked at the cemetery for 44 years.
