VSU to Host Georgia Clean Energy Tour
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Monday, April 4th, 2016
Valdosta State University will welcome Dr. Vernon Dixon and the Georgia Clean Energy Tour to campus at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, in Nevins Hall 1121-1122. Admission is free of charge and open to the public.
A VSU alumnus and retired psychiatrist now committed to the fight against climate change, Dixon will present the Citizens Climate Lobby’s Carbon Fee and Dividend Plan, including the negative impact of climate change and how individuals can help.
Founded in 2007, the Citizens Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization that focuses on national policies to address climate change. CCL developed the Carbon Fee and Dividend proposal in order to create a climate change solution that accounts for the costs of burning fossil fuels that will reduce the likelihood of catastrophic climate change from global warming.
“A brief summary of our plan is to give people more information,” said Dixon. “… the Carbon Fee and Dividend Plan … puts a price on the production of carbon dioxide and methane where it is produced, whether it is coal, natural gas, or oil. This helps to make the playing field fairer for alternative energy sources such as solar and wind.”
A question-and-answer discussion session will occur after Dixon’s talk. Light refreshments will be provided.
