April 5 | Road Work on Jerry Jones/Gornto
The Engineering Department will raise the stormwater grate at the intersection of Jerry Jones Drive and Gornto Road. The work will be performed on Tuesday, April 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Due to the nature of the repair, the southbound right turning lane on Jerry Jones Drive will be closed for the work; however, motorists will still be allowed to make the right turn at the light. Traffic control devices will be in place during work hours to alert motorists of the work. Motorists are urged to use caution when driving through this area, for their safety and the safety of others. For more information, call the Engineering Department at 229-259-3530.
April 5 | ZBOA Meets
The Valdosta-Lowndes County Zoning Board of Appeals will hold its monthly meeting at 2:30 p.m., in City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The ZBOA hears all variance requests and appeals regarding staff interpretations of the City of Valdosta Land Development Regulations. April 5 | Valdosta City Council Meets for Work Session
The Mayor and City Council meet for a work session on Tuesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., which allows council members an adequate amount of time to discuss agenda items. As always, the meeting is open to the general public and is held in the second floor Council Chambers of City Hall, at 216 E. Central Avenue.
April 7 | Valdosta City Council Meets
The Mayor and City Council will meet this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers to recognize the city’s monthly Employee of the Month recipient and to conduct city business. The meeting is open to the general public. View the agenda.
April 7 | Citizens Police Academy Meets for Week #4
Citizens enrolled in the Valdosta Citizens Police Academy are in week #4 of a 10-week program and will get a behind-the-scenes look at the Bureau of Investigations and Narcotics Unit. The class is free and is one of three citizens information programs designed to engage and educate citizens on their local government.
April 8 | Calling All Artists!
The City of Valdosta and the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts invite artists and artist teams to submit their conceptual designs to be considered for a public Dumpster Art project as part of the 2016 Georgia Cities Week activities. Selected artists will have the opportunity to kick off Georgia Cities Week in Valdosta by artistically painting designs that celebrate life in the city on three dumpsters located in the downtown area. The deadline to get concept designs in is Friday, April 8. Read more.
April 9 | Electronics Recycling Event
The City of Valdosta and Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful will provide residents and businesses the opportunity to dispose of electronic devices in a safe and convenient manner at the Spril Electronics Recycling Event. The event will be held on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of the Mathis City Auditorium, located at 2300 N. Ashley Street. Read more, or view event flyer.
