Valdosta Celebrates Georgia Cities Week, April 17-23
The City of Valdosta will join other cities across Georgia in celebrating Georgia Cities Week, April 17-23, to recognize the many services city governments provide for the quality of life of citizens. The theme this year is “Go To Town” and will feature how Valdosta Main Street is a gathering spot for people throughout our region and an economic development hot spot.  View list of events.

April 19 | City Blood Drive
Citizens are invited to give the gift of life at the City Blood Drive, on Tuesday, April 19, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Lee Street.
 
April 20 | Job Shadow Day
Forty students from Valdosta High School Advancements via Individual Determination program will job shadow city department heads and give presentations to the Valdosta Mayor, City Council members and staff at a luncheon. The event will take place from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and is one of many youth educational programs designed to engage local youth in their city government.
 
April 20 | Land Bank Meets
The Land Bank Authority will meet Wednesday, April 20, at 9 a.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex, 2nd floor Engineering Conference Room. The purpose of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Land Bank Authority is to foster the public purpose of returning property which is in a non-revenue generating, non-tax producing status to effective utilization status in order to provide housing, new industry and jobs for citizens.  Call 229-671-3617.

April 20 | Goodwill on the Go - Career Development Workshop: Interview Time - Part II
It’s not too late to sign up for the Job Interview workshop being held at the Valdosta City Hall Annex, 2nd floor Engineering Conference Room, on Wednesday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This workshop is part of Job Connections, the recent partnership between the City of Valdosta and Goodwill Industries to provide more access to job and career information and resources. April 21 | South Georgia Coalition Hosts Job Fair
The South Georgia Coalition for Employment will host a job fair on Thursday, April 21, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Lowndes County Civic Center. This job fair is open to all citizens, to include individuals with high school diplomas or general education diplomas, individuals graduating from technical schools/colleges, and individuals with prior convictions who are eager to change their lives by entering the workforce.  Read more.
 
April 21 | City Employee “Game Day” Appreciation Luncheon
City officials will spend some down time with city employees at John W. Saunders Memorial Park, from 11 am – 1 pm, to show their appreciation for the work city employees do year-round.
 
April 21 | Valdosta Youth Council Meets
Mayor John Gayle will meet with the 14-member Valdosta Youth Council at their regularly-scheduled meeting, on April 21, at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers of Valdosta City Hall (located at 216 E. April 21 | City Council Meeting/Announcement of “If I Were Mayor, I Would…” Essay Winners
Citizens are invited to attend the City Council meeting as Mayor John Gayle announces the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the “If I Were Mayor” sixth-grade essay contest, among other city business. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m., at Valdosta City Hall, located at 216 E. Central Avenue and is open to the general public. View the meeting agenda.
 
April 21 | Citizens Police Academy Meets for Week #6
Citizens enrolled in the Valdosta Citizens Police Academy are in week #6 of a 10-week program and be exposed to the Training Unit/TOU Demo & Lowndes Emergency Management Center. The academy is free and is one of three citizens information programs designed to engage and educate citizens on their local government.  
 
April 22 | Stormwater Curb Marker Event: The Valdosta Stormwater Division will host a Curb Marker Event, from 9-11 a.m., in observance of Earth Day. Remember, only rain down the storm drain! Interested citizens may call 229-259-3530.
 
April 23 | The Great American Cleanup
The Great American Cleanup, hosted by Keep Lowndes-Valdosta Beautiful, will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in several locations around the city. The event gathers volunteers to pick up unsightly litter along sides of streets and other public places. To volunteer, contact KLVB at 229-671-3698.
 
April 23 | Community-Wide Bulk Trash Amnesty Day
The Community-Wide Bulk Trash Amnesty Day, a major component of the Great American Cleanup, will also be held on Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.This event, hosted by the City of Valdosta Neighborhood Development Division, allows citizens to make one trip per household to one of four city locations to dispose of bulk loads of garbage, at no cost to the citizens. Citizens who bring their trash for disposal must bring a copy of their City of Valdosta Utilities Statement and a photo ID as proof of Valdosta residency. Valdosta citizens with cars, trucks and standard-sized trailers will be allowed only one trip to one of the four locations, where city employees and volunteers will be available to help citizens unload.
