Hospice of South Georgia & Langdale Hospice House Celebrates Volunteers during National Volunteer Week, April 10th-16th

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Monday, April 11th, 2016

In recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, 2016, Hospice of South Georgia and it’s hospice care center, the Langdale Hospice House, are honoring the hospice volunteers who bring compassion, support and dignity to those facing a serious, life-limiting illness. Hospice volunteers bring companionship to people in the final months and weeks of life, often a time when people find themselves cut off from the community, isolated and alone.

Volunteers are the “heart of hospice”.  Without them, Hospice of South Ga and our Langdale Hospice House would not exist.  They support the organization through many roles including respite care and friendship, running errands, greeting and visiting patients and loved ones at the Langdale Hospice House, bereavement support, office or clerical help, fundraising, participation in our ‘We Honor Veterans’ program, and helping at The Tree House Resale Shop.  Bill Meli, Volunteer Manager at Hospice of South Georgia adds, “We could not accomplish what we accomplish without our caring, committed, wonderful team of volunteers.  They selflessly give their hearts and time to our patients and their families in times of need.”  Hospice of South Georgia welcomes all members of every community to join the team.  Each volunteer receives intensive training and background checks.  They are given the tools and confidence to support Hospice of South Georgia in a loving, meaningful way.
