Thursday, March 31st, 2016
Twenty-nine students recently gathered at Valdosta State University’s Nevins Hall for the third annual Azalea Health Hackathon. The students were given a problem to solve and challenged to develop innovative software applications for use in the health care industry in just eight hours. A panel of judges selected the top three teams based on the innovation/creativity, quality, user-friendliness, accuracy, and overall presentation of the final creations. The winners were all VSU students — Matt Cliatt and Pato Vargas earned first place honors and $1,000; Landon Lamb, Kunal Patel, Colby Veal, and Harrison Epperson earned second place honors and $500; and Rene Perez earned third place honors and $250. The 2016 event was open to all currently enrolled high school, college, and university students interested in computer science, engineering, and computer design and hosted by VSU’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
