American Red Cross of South Georgia Seeking Nominations for Community Heroes

The American Red Cross of South Georgia is looking for community heroes that have made a difference in Valdosta and surrounding area.

According to Terri Jenkins, executive director of the American Red Cross of South Georgia, nominees must live or work in Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier or Lowndes counties. 

Additional qualifications include: 

• Nominees must have made a significant difference in the community, going above and beyond in their day-to-day lives; and

• Accomplishments must have taken place within the last 12 months.

Examples of contributions might include saving a life (or assisting) by intervening in a life-threatening situation and/or giving the victim aid they needed to survive; or working with youth, elderly, or homeless people within the community. Nominees can be a professionally trained lifesaver or simply a Good Samaritan.

To nominate a Community Hero, send a short bio and headshot of the person, their name, mailing address, email address, phone, and place of employment. Submit nominations via email to [email protected] or mail to American Red Cross of South Georgia at 509 N. Patterson Street, Valdosta, Ga., 31601. Nominations will be accepted until 5 p.m., March 7, 2016.

All nominees will be honored at the American Red Cross of South Georgia Community Heroes dinner from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at the Rainwater Conference Center. Cost is $40 per person. Proceeds from the event will benefit local disaster relief programs and other services associated with the American Red Cross of South Georgia.
