Feb. 16: CDBG Ribbon Cutting.  The Neighborhood Development Division will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 912 Magnolia Street. This is one of six homes reconstructed in the past year utilizing Community Development Block Grant funds and moving toward the city’s goal of eliminating substandard housing in the city by year 2020. The public is invited to attend the celebration.
 
Feb. 16. CVDA Board Meets.  The Central Valdosta Development Authority will meet Tuesday, at 5 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The CVDA manages the process of enhancing downtown's position as the governmental, cultural, and economic center of the Greater Lowndes County area by involving businesses, property owners, government, churches and the entire community. Feb. 17: Land Bank Meets. The Land Bank Authority will meet Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 9 a.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The purpose of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Land Bank Authority is to foster the public purpose of returning property which is in a non-revenue generating, non-tax producing status to effective utilization status in order to provide housing, new industry and jobs for citizens.  Call 229-671-3617.

Feb. 17: City Hosts Job Search Tips Workshop.  It’s not too late to sign up for the Job Search Tips workshop held at the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, on Wednesday, Feb 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This workshop is part of Job Connections, the recent partnership between the City of Valdosta and Goodwill Industries to provide more access to job and career information and resources.  To register, call Neighborhood development staff at 229-671-3617.  Read more.

Feb. 18: Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner.  This annual appreciation dinner will recognize the important role law enforcement officers play in our community and will recognize the top law enforcement officers of the year.  Contact James Dominey for event and ticket details.

Feb. 19: Georgia Arbor Day.  The Valdosta Tree Commission is hosting its annual Arbor Day event on Friday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. to recognize the city’s designation as a Tree City USA for its 30th year. The event will take place at the American Legion Post 13, located at 1301 Williams Street.  Read more.
 
Feb. 19: Last Day to Purchase 2016 Bird Supper Tickets.  Bird Supper tickets will be on sale through Friday, Feb 19. The traditional event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at the historic Georgia Railroad Depot, in Atlanta, beginning at 5 p.m. Sponsored by the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners and the City of Valdosta, the event brings together hundreds of state officials and local business, professional and government personnel for a dinner of quail and important conversations.
