In addition to working to recruit new industry to the community, the Berrien County Development Authority works to grow existing industry.  The results of a recent survey of existing industry show 134 new jobs were added in 2015 from the six companies that responded to the survey.

“The Development Authority is excited to see job growth in Berrien County,” said Col. Nick Lacey, Chairman of the Berrien County Development Authority.  “The addition of these jobs is the equivalent of a new industry coming to Berrien County.  While the new industry announcements tend to make headlines, historically its existing industry that accounts for much of the job growth across the state.”

Most industries responding to the survey reported single digit job growth.  Chaparral Boats posted the largest number of new employees, with 100 added in 2015.

According to Buck Pegg, Founder of Chaparral Boats, “We are committed to continue our 51- year tradition as a market share leader in the marine industry to develop, market and distribute our boats throughout the world.  The organic growth of our Robalo fishing boats and the all new introduction of our Vortex line of six boats with jet power has enabled us to open a new plant and hire more than 100 employees to keep up with the production demand for our diverse product offerings bringing our current employee count to 765.”

“The Development Authority works daily to support our existing industry as well as recruit new investment and jobs to Berrien County,” said Lacey.
