Valdosta State University student volunteers recently joined V-State Dining to help tackle the issue of hunger in the Valdosta community. The students and dining professionals spent Friday morning preparing chicken and shrimp with mashed potatoes and asparagus for 150 men, women, and children served by the Community Soup Kitchen Inc., located at 601 N. Lee St. It was an opportunity for the VSU group to experience firsthand the power of such a simple act — providing a hot meal and a smile — on the life of a person who may not always know from where their next meal or friendly face will come.
