SGMC Offering Free Cardiac & Vascular Screening Tests Oct. 23rd

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Monday, October 19th, 2015

As part of SGMC’s Growing Healthy Together initiative, SGMC's CardioVascular Institute is teaming up with the SGMC Dasher Memorial Heart Center and South Georgia Medical Associates, P.C., to help residents of our community beat cardiac and vascular diseases.

Free cardiac and vascular screening tests will be held from 8am to 4pm, on Friday, October 23, at the office of the SGMC CardioVascular Institute in the SGMC Professional Building at 2409 N. Patterson Street, Suite 230 in Valdosta, GA. The limited screenings will include peripheral arterial screening, carotid artery screening, abdominal aneurysm screening, an EKG, and a limited echocardiogram.  Registration is required by calling 229-433-6617.

According to Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Randall Brown, this screening is more comprehensive and will provide more timely results than what is usually offered because patients with abnormal findings will receive the results before they leave the screening.  This will provide an opportunity to seek medical follow up care with a physician of your choice immediately, rather than waiting weeks for the results of the screening tests.

“As patients leave the screening area, they will be given a check sheet that states whether their screening outcome was normal or abnormal.  Screening tests do not really diagnose a disease.  They tell you if you are at higher risk and need further testing to determine if you have the condition.  Medical follow up with your health care practitioner is strongly recommended for any abnormal result.” Dr. Brown explains. For more information or a screening appointment, contact 229-433-6617.
