Valdosta Symphony Guild Celebratory Luncheon

Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, September 24th, 2015

Earlier this year the Valdosta Symphony Guild closed out their 2014/2015 year with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra’s 25th season with a celebratory luncheon at the Valdosta Country Club.  Guests were entertained with music performed by students enrolled in the South Georgia String Project, one of the many youth programs supported by the Guild. Eight new members were introduced and recently elected officers were installed.

The event recognized outgoing President Carla Penny for her excellent job of seeing them throughout this special “Year of the Arts” for VSU.  The Guild, through their fund-raising efforts, raised $50,000 for the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and presented a check to Dr. Doug Farwell and Maestro Howard Hsu accepting on behalf of the Orchestra.

A check was also presented, as a donation, to the Valdosta Symphony Guild Endowment Fund in the amount of $10,000, with John Crawford and Dean Blake Pearce accepting on behalf of the Endowment Fund.

The Guild is currently getting ready for their “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” ball to be held at the Valdosta County Club on November 14, 2015.  Events for the evening include cocktails, an auction, an elegant dinner and dancing. The Ed Barr Orchestra will provide the music.  If you would like to receive an invitation, please contact Sarah Cain, Senior Administrative Secretary for College of the Arts Outreach at 333-2150. This event is a major fund-raiser for the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and its educational programs, particularly those that benefit the children of Valdosta, Lowndes County and surrounding areas.
