Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, September 10th, 2015

The City of Valdosta will host a 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 11, at 8:45 a.m. at Valdosta Fire Station #1, located at 106 S. Oak Street. Valdosta Fire Chief Freddie Broome will preside over the ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day 14 years ago and in honor of the continued efforts of public safety professionals.

"The lives of those we lost and the outstanding heroism displayed by our public servants who sacrificed their lives during the tragic 9-11 attacks will never be forgotten," Mayor John Gayle said. "When we consider everything going on in the world lately, we should be reminded of how fortunate we are to have an exceptional team of first responders across our nation and here locally who are ready in a moment's notice to save the lives of others.”

The public is invited to join Mayor Gayle, City Manager Larry Hanson, Fire Chief Broome, Chief of Police Brian Childress, the combined Valdosta Honor Guard, and other members of the Valdosta Fire and Police Departments and other city staff to observe a moment of silence on 9-11 to remember the fallen, to honor the courage and commitment of all public safety professionals, and to give thanks for the continued protection and freedom we have as Americans.

Members of the Valdosta Fire Department Pipe and Drum Corps will perform and a special flag presentation by the Woodsmen of the World will also take place during the ceremony.
