Southeastern Credit Union needs the community's help to reach their goal of filling an entire semi-truck – nearly 40,000 pounds – with food donations for local food bank Second Harvest of South Georgia.  With less than a week left until the community-wide food drive comes to a close on September 30, best estimates show the community nearly halfway to the Fill-a-Truck goal.  If the community successfully meets Southeastern's challenge, the Credit Union will donate a second truckload of food to Second Harvest.

Donations can be made now through the end of the month at a number of locations in Valdosta, Tifton, and Nashville.  Collection bins can be found at all six Southeastern CU branches, Valdosta and Lake Park Winn-Dixie stores, multiple locations on-campus at VSU, multiple City of Valdosta offices, Steel's Jewelry, Georgia Power Valdosta offices, and Crossroads Baptist Church. 

Monetary donations can be made at any Southeastern CU branch or online at feedingsga.org, noting that the donation is for "Fill-a-Truck."  Each dollar donated equals four pounds of food towards the 40,000 pound community goal.

According to Second Harvest of South Georgia, the region's largest food bank serving 30 counties in South Georgia, nearly 1 in 4 South Georgians struggle with hunger on a daily basis, including 1 in 3 children.  South Georgia has the highest rates of hunger in the state, and well above the national average.  September is deemed national Hunger Action Month and a time of year when food bank supplies and donations are typically low.
