Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

The SGMC Volunteer Auxiliary selected the upgrading and expanding of the hospital’s courtesy cart fleet as a part of its annual hospital donation allocation for 2014. On Thursday, August 20, the two new electric carts were delivered and placed into service.
With the continuous growth and expansion of services on SGMC’s main campus, the demand for courtesy transportation is rising. Auxiliary volunteers generously donate their time to drive the carts, providing transportation to and from various parking lots and between campus buildings Monday through Friday from 8am-4pm. The service currently runs in the front Visitor’s lot, Dasher Memorial Heart Center/Outpatient lot and the Pearlman Cancer Center lot.
After considering several vendors for new transportation options, the Volunteer Auxiliary purchased two new GEM Cars by Polaris. The new carts will support the growth of the courtesy transport service to soon include transport between the Professional Building and Ambulatory Surgery Center as well. In addition, it will afford an upgrade to the Pearlman Cancer Center transportation services.
“This is a movement that supports a change in the way we utilize our resources by introducing a ‘green’ concept to our campus, while considering the innovative ways we can continue to partner comfort with care.” says Jessica McKinney, SGMC Director of Patient Relations and Volunteer Services.
