August 11: CVDA Board Meets. The Central Valdosta Development Authority will meet Tuesday, at 5 p.m., in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The CVDA manages the process of enhancing downtown's position as the governmental, cultural, and economic center of the Greater Lowndes County area by involving businesses, property owners, government, churches and the entire community. August 11: Phase Three Smoke Testing Begins. The City of Valdosta will being phase three of its Smoke Testing Program on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The work which will take approximately eight weeks to complete, will take place on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Click here to read more.

August 12: Traffic Reduced on Gornto Road for Force Main Installation. Installation of the force main under a portion of Gornto Road, adjacent to the YMCA, will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 12 and is expected to be completed by Friday, Aug. 21, weather permitting. Work will be performed daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. After 5 p.m. each day, the road will re-open to two-way traffic. Due to the nature of the work, traffic on Gornto Road will be reduced to one lane between the railroad tracks and the main entrance of the YMCA. Motorists are urged to take an alternate route during the construction, leaving only those who must travel that route-i.e. school buses, YMCA patrons, emergency vehicles, etc.-to a minimum. Motorists who must travel this portion of Gornto Road should allow additional travel time to account for the expected traffic delays. Click here for more information.

August 15: Farm Days This Saturday. The Downtown Valdosta Farm Days continues on Saturday. The popular farmers market takes place on the sidewalks around the historic Lowndes County Courthouse, in downtown Valdosta, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., on the first and third Saturday of every month through September 19.
