VLPRA Hosts Community Fireworks Spectacular
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Wednesday, July 1st, 2015
Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority will once again provide a fantastic fireworks display for the community on Independence Day.
VLPRA’s annual Fireworks Spectacular will be held on Saturday, July 4th at nightfall (around 9:15 PM). The show is free to view and the VLPRA encourages people to watch the fireworks on the mall side of I-75, between exits 16 and 18.
VLPRA’s Executive Director George Page says it takes months to plan such a large display: “We begin the process in January. There are many moving parts: the location, securing the display itself, and getting all of the proper permits”.
Even with all the preparations, “The fireworks show is a rewarding event,” Page says. “Children love the show and it’s exciting to hear the cheers after the finale. Plus, it brings the community together to celebrate our great nation.”
Since it is an outdoor event, weather does play a factor in the fireworks show. Rain, wet ground, or fog can affect whether the fireworks explode. VLPRA already has a plan for that and will reschedule the fireworks for Sunday, July 5th at nightfall if necessary.
