Staff Report From Valdosta CEO

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015

Citizens gathered at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts on July 20 to hear the mayor announce the winners in the 7th Annual Valdosta People’s Choice Photo Contest. The event, co-hosted by the Turner Arts Center and the City of Valdosta, was also supported by five category sponsors: Georgia Power, Valdosta Camellia & Garden Club, Valdosta-Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority, Valdosta Main Street, and Woodmen of the World.

Marvin T. Smith won the Best in Show award for his photo titled “One of One Hundred,” which features a baby red-shouldered hawk in Drexel Park, just one of one hundred species recorded by bird watchers there. Smith received an engraved 11”x14” matted frame of his entry, $100 and two season tickets to the 2015-2016 Presenter Series ($250 value).

From June 15 to July 15, citizens were asked to visit the Tillman Gallery at the center to vote for their favorite photos in five categories and a Best in Show. The category winners are as follows:
