City Seeks Citizens' Input for New Valdosta Website
Staff Report From Valdosta CEO
Friday, July 31st, 2015
The City of Valdosta is seeking citizens’ input for its new city website via an online survey. The survey may be accessed through August 21 from the "Residents" tab on the navigation bar of the existing homepage or by clicking here.
In collaboration with the city's Public Information Office, a Website Redesign Committee made up of employee representatives from all city departments has been tasked to create a site that considers the user first. In an effort to accomplish this, the city seeks citizens’ feedback concerning ways to improve how information is accessed and displayed. Search engines, navigation tools and mobile phone and tablet accessibility have changed drastically over the years, as well as technology in general, and the city is committed to creating a site with a logical flow that gives citizens and other web visitors the information and services they need quickly and easily.
In addition to continuing to provide 24/7 information for citizens about their local government, the new site will bring more visibility to Metro Valdosta Channel 17—the city's government access channel located on Mediacom Channel 17. Informative videos and newscasts will have a greater online presence on the new site, in addition to their current YouTube and Mediacom locations.
The City of Valdosta launched its first website in 1998 and was one of the first local governments in the area to have a comprehensive website. The city was also among the first to incorporate online payment services, online job applications, crime maps, traffic cameras, online council meeting agendas and minutes. The last website upgrade was in 2007.
The new website is expected to be available for citizens by Jan. 1, 2016. Printed copies of the survey are also available at City Hall, in the City Hall Annex and in the Valdosta Customer Service Center. For more information, contact Public Information Officer Sementha Mathews at (229) 259-3548.
