Office of Adult Education held its annual Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education Leadership Institute March 16, 17 and 18, 2015. The Wiregrass EAGLE delegate was Ms. Leanne Powell, who was a GED graduate in December 2014. She competed against 28 other candidates in Atlanta, Georgia.

While Ms. Powell did not win the top award, she was recognized with the Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is selected by the EAGLE delegates for the one delegate who has demonstrated the most spirit. Because of this Ms. Powell received two trophies.

Other delegates commented on Ms. Powell’s encouraging demeanor. They said she had the most energy and kept the group energetically happy and calm during their stressful interviews and speaking engagements.

As a wife and mother of four children and expecting one more, Ms. Powell’s energy served as enthusiasm for other candidates.  She appeared as a professional in all venues and well-represented Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.

Also in attendance at Leadership Institute was Dr. Tina Anderson, President WGTC, Mr. Alvin Payton, Vice President of Adult Education Services and Dr. Penelope Schmidt, Executive Director of Advancement and Resource Development and Adann-Kennn Alexxandar, EAGLE Coordinator and Instructor for WGTC’s Adult Education Services.
