Valdosta Mayor John Gayle and Deputy City Manager for Administration Mark Barber honored Greg Brown as the April 2015 Employee of the Month at the April 9 City Council meeting. Brown received a framed certificate, a check for $200, and his name appears on a plaque displayed inside of City Hall.

Brown has served as the city’s purchasing agent for the past 20 years, where he has been responsible for selecting products for purchase by obtaining price quotes, reviewing bid proposals, negotiating certain contracts within budgetary limitations, presenting bid items for consideration at council meetings and maintaining all procurement records. Brown initiated the city’s use of Govdeals.com in 2006 and has been successful in recouping over a half million dollars from the city’s surplus items.

Recently, when both custodians at City Hall were on medical leave, Brown took it upon himself to perform their duties—in addition to his own—for several weeks to ensure this housekeeping duty was completed and the buildings were properly maintained.

Brown has a big heart that extends past the city and its employees. Recently, Brown and another city worker came across a citizen with Parkinson ’s disease, who was having trouble getting to the permit office.  Not only did Brown assist the citizen in getting his permit, he also offered to safely drive the citizen home.

The City of Valdosta applauds Greg Brown for his dedication to the city and its citizens and for being named the March 2015 Employee of the Month.
