VFD's Launches “Let’s Talk Fire Safety” Newsletter

Press release from the issuing company

Monday, March 9th, 2015

The Valdosta Fire Department is utilizing a new educational tool in an effort to maintain and improve the current Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating, which measures the services that fire departments deliver to their community by national standards.  The VFD has maintained an ISO Class 2 Rating for over a decade, resulting in very low property insurance premiums for city residents.

The “Let’s Talk Fire Safety” monthly newsletter, launched by the VFD in March 2015 as part of their Community Risk Reduction program, allows the department to receive extra credit for the Public Fire Safety Education and Residential Fire Safety Programs of the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule.  While continuing to educate the public on fire safety, the VFD ultimately moves closer to achieving an ISO Class 1 rating in the future.

“It is the mission of the Valdosta Fire Department to educate and promote fire safety to every business and individual in the Valdosta community,” said Chief Freddie Broome. “With the addition of our Fire Safety Newsletter, the department is one step closer to fulfilling our mission.”

The VFD asks citizens to share the newsletter via email and social media in order to spread the good information contained in the newsletter. The department has also set-up a fire safety email account at [email protected] for citizens to contact the Fire Department with (non-emergency) safety questions, comments and suggestions.  As always, in the event of an emergency please call 911.
